my new camera is going to be sent over this afternoon. got myself a mocha brown fuji z5; reputedly best in the range of supercompacts for night shots and winner of best camera award in europe, things like that... but more importantly, i needed a design that was fairly eye catching so nope, no boring matchbox style rectangles for me. i still mourn the loss of my old trusty minolta, lost to the cruel world of "circuit board failure" in a bout of over-enthusiastic trigger happiness a few months back. i guess i was pressing the shutter too quickly in between shots, thus it died from asphyxiation. blahhh! but since it lived to a rather old age in tech terms, hopefully the new toy will be a good successor and catcher of many good memories in time to come =)

i am freeee(er) now! ending internships wasn't a huge cause for celebration per se, cos the days in office were rather fun since my fellow interns were such a riot. the last day of work was a marathon donut queueing session (4 blardy hours! and we were there 2 hours before the shop even opened!) and upon returning to office, an extended tea session where women proclaimed how sinful it was to indulge (as they reached for their next flavour), and the men nonchalantly scarfed down 2 rings in 10 minutes. the office will be missed!

had a day of reunions yesterday; met chris estelle cw and es in the afternoon and the rg clarinets section of yore in the evening. lunch at fish and co was a pathetic affair; service was deplorable and took very long to arrive, and contrary to "good things come to those who wait", our seafood platter gave us smelly prawns that tasted really off, the drinks were watery and the grilled calamari was too fish smelling. i "brought this to the notice" of the manager, who then made us wait another half hour or so for 2 plates of panna cotta (their way of compensation). hrms... i think the stnds at fish & co have gone a long way down. night time steam boat in michelle's house was vaguely awkward, since somewhere in our subconsciousness, seniors still wield immeasurable power, but at the same time also rather heartwarming to gather for a reunion after more than 5 years. we reminisced about the old days and discovered how cult-like rgssb was in those days, and laughed at how our band juniors' greeting has evolved into some sort of hip-side wrist rotating semblance of a wave, more to the floor than to the senior.

indeed, we were senior fearing, rule abiding followers in those days, but it was nonetheless one of the best times of my life. rg life is characterised by the times in the band corridor area, saturdays were 7.30am band practices, footdrills in the blazing sun and dozing off from fatigue in church later in the evening and jerking awake upon hearing a clash of cymbals in your head. i guess being an rg band girl has permanently molded many of us into authority respecting individuals very influenced by hierarchical systems; upon entering jc, for the first few months at least, i still proceeded with caution whenever i spoke to friends from my senior class. doesn't sound very good does it? but i'm still greatly thankful for the wonderful family i have in the band. we had a room to call home, a secret closet to play truant in, and tunes that we all knew by heart and which could easily move us to tears from the deluge of memories. once an rg band girl, always an rg band girl.

"you shouldn't aim to let the audience go away thinking, 'that's a good concert from a band of young girls', instead, pitch yourselves above your inexperience and impress them as a professional orchestra would"
- Lao Shi, Mr Luk, during band prac one day as we prepared for Cadenza 7.

i think i'm starting to be swayed over to the corporate side... in particular, the corp side in s*amf*rd. the people have been great; helpful, friendly, none of the seniority complex bull and they know how to enjoy their fun. the widely perceived notion of corporate as being dry and mindless has largely been dispelled after these 2+ weeks... maybe it's just because i'm as exciting as a sheet of bleached a4 paper, but i wasn't bored out of my wits doing the ever present proof reading tasks, researching on various areas of commercial law, attending meetings. in fact, i was kept rather entertained by the translation jobs, writing legal rags, drafting client letters etc. this is rare indeed, but i might actually miss going back to office once friday passes.

speaking of friday, the cool joes at the office have sent the "senior attachees" to run project D on fri morning. we were to take the morning off, away from office to standby at the project venue and wait till project kicks off at 1230. after being baffled for a while by that cryptic email, we finally understood that the office was giving us the whole morning off so that we can queue up to buy donuts from the donut factory in raffles to bring back to the office for a farewell tea party for us. woohooo... ppl in the firm really have a good time. i rest my case. we were brought for an indian food buffet for lunch today to welcome the new and send off the old attachees. jon lau was oft urged not to pitch his expectations of bengalore against this meal. taryn and i , plus most of the associates, nearly died after trying abit of the salty lassi. but amazingly, senior man yap gulped it down with no problems at all. our 2 over hour lunch break resulted in most of the office feeling a little sleepy and lathargic after that. well, kyle excluded, since he sleeps so blatantly in office, whether full or not. aight... 3 more (hopefully) good days at the firm. and i shall welcome a week long break thereafter.

hello! are these words in larger than usual font? i'm very sad if they are cos it makes this blog look like a page out of a pre schooler's first story book =( this week is the last week of my 3 wk stint at Such&Such Law Corp, and i've had fun so far. it's definitely a place worth considering for the long term, what with the friendly ppl, conducive work environment and...errr... the milo machine (yeah kong?).

some of us are gonna make use of a 14 day trial of Cali f*tnes* these few days and see what those complimentary yoga and hip hop classes can do for us. i love the facilities, but with that price tag attached to it, i'm much better off climbing the stairs in my house and running around the estate than having machines simulate these activities. plus, the sales ppl are more dogged than the most tenacious pit bulls... and with as much social awareness too! we were obviously bored stiff throughout the welcome tour, and unwilling to sign up on the spot, but that clueless lad just kept yabbing on and on. tris told us that the lad suffers from autism; i have no reason to disbelieve so. hmmm, but i shall not be mean... he was merely doing his job (albeit over zealously), and i've already spoilt my sweet image (indeeedd!) with my mini outburst at the end of the night, so i will just gratefully take the 14 complimentary days and silently scoot off at the end of it. aight, back to the work week...

wrt to the recent spate of exponential tagboard activity growth, it's just all damn funny how a petty feud can become a vendetta with law school in general. sing it, "there's a defamation suit... hanging on ur head. who u gonna call? NOBODY!" or maybe smu's new cohort can assist you, after all, they will be "unfettered by tradition". this one man show against all my friends can be quite an inspiring scenario actually, kinda like tom cruise as the last samurai facing the modern jap army, finding himself severely lacking in the manpower department. what a gallant fight, but how pointless and foolhardy. oh well, popular opinion is that tom cruise is somewhat of a psycho anyway, whether in real life or behind the screen.

hallo. its the end of the work week whoopie! i'm actually finding myself not dreading going to work, apart from the waking up at 7am part. my 3 other rowdy fellas are much fun, esp when we cluster around to comment on things we see on...line. go figure =p we were instructed not to blog about work on the pain of death/ dismissal, so i am very vague now. currently sitting arnd at our common work area slacking, welcoming the weekend, as we wait for kong to finish his mega assignment.

clubbing on a public holiday eve is a stupid thing to do, for those of u who don't already know, dun ever ever attempt it. it's 1) a waste of time cos the good clubs will have snaking queues, 2) a waste of money cos u have to spend more travelling around looking for a club that's not full (and ladies don't enjoy ladies night) and 3) a waste of effort cos u hardly get to enjoy urself while jostling for ur very own sq inch of space. all in all, arggg, it was a sad night in the history (short history) of pet's clubbing exploits. however, it was interesting to be a witness to mag and yalan's debut to the dark world =) oh, and the free white choc martini at Loof's new menu launch event was not a bad perk too. anyway, yeahhh, i shall pretend to be brain dead at the end of a work week. tata! i need to buy more work clothes, if not the guys will always scorn me for being casual.

MOS was fun fun fun. too bad i came down from my high at abt 2 plus and good-girlness urged me to start making an exit. tris wants to go to butter factory next time, would that be his birthday treat? wonder what we could stuff him up with then... friday night saw the junior members of SAWL on the receiving end of much hospitality by the senior ladies. hmmm, perhaps if i stay long enough in the assoc, eloquence, humour and wit will be bestowed upon me as membership perks too! an hour long drinks session turned out to be a much longer gossip/ sharing session with good food and lychee martini. membership costs duly recouped =) after that, i walked over to brewerkz to catch up with PRIMARY SCH classmates. throughout dinner, we kept remarking on how amazing it is that we're all adults now, instead of the fugly kids with odd bowl shaped hair and blunt fringes that we were 10 years ago.

the release of results should have settled in comfortably (or not) in the nus ppl by now. i am thankful for what i have; though nothing even worthy of a 2nd look by standards of the sch, it is a vast vast improvement from the compost heap of year 1 results. one never dares to not work harder in this fac (except of course if u're gg on exchange. ah... long sigh), so i guess next sem onwards, i play with higher stakes. don't burn those fingers!

6 of us went for a 5 day summer holiday to taipei city and we had lots of fun. 1 or 2 days more wld have been nice on hindsight, cos we din really cover alot of places. and now that i'm back home, the 3 month holiday just seems so dull and flat cos the event that i'd been looking forward to my entire study period has came and gone. sigh... internships definitely cannot be considered a highlight!

anyway, yes taipei was great. the plane ride there was bearable at best, glum stewardesses, musky air, but thankfully a very smooth landing. i'm glad that i retained some chinese speaking skills, and that aloy and adrienne were our chinese ambassadors cos we wld have been quite pathetic relying on sign language. winston was damn funny la, he and his pure AC non chinese roots provided much entertainment as he struggled to converse with the locals. at one restaurant, he ordered a choc-ke-li sundae and at the ktv we had to read out the lyrics for him as he sang. btw do check out winnie's chinese song prowess, raw emotion and anguish in his vocals as he sang a certain rather significant song =p

we visited memorials and museums like the typical tourist, tried to spot mistakes in the english signs, thronged the little lanes of ximending for clothes, drank alot of bubble tea and tried many stores of ji pa. the guys were very happy with the food variety, especially khel who stunned the rest abit with his black hole of a stomach. but i guess with street food costing just abt S$2 and the higher end cafes serving more unique and tastier fare than sg, (and cute and charming waitresses, according to tris and wins) the taipei food was worth creating space for.

khel and tris took the chance to get a hair cut at one of the many hair salons at ximen, and it was a fairly decent result. the guys probably enjoyed themselves more cos of the additional (vital) fact that taipei girls all seem to be perfect figured! smooth alabastar legs in tiny shorts seem to be the norm rather than exception, and they all go for the dark smoky eyed effect, faced ringed with doll-like curls. pretty pretty, even adrienne and i had a good time rating them =p we must have seemed like some despo party addicts when we asked a whole range of youngish ppl, from the tourism kiosk lady, to waiters, to shop keepers about the good nightspots in town. on wednesday night, we took the mrt as instructed and found ourselves at a club called Luxy. omg, the name sounds damn seedy and lame la, but the music was fairly decent (r&b mostly) and the ppl were gorgeous. dammit why zouk not liddat? ok granted that there was a damn random ah pek reliving his youth as he grooved to his own tune on the podium, but the crowd was mostly good looking and the clothes were even skimpier now. tris and wins, for all the bravado they professed on the way there, failed to catch anyone's eye nor picked up any locals who were supposed to have swooned at the sound of their fluent english. nope, sorry bros, no deal =p

despite the hype, i din quite enjoy the food at shilin. the oyster omelette had strange ketchupy sauce on it, the ji pa wasn't tasty enough and the mee sua was too starchy. but i conquered a whole serving of smelly tofu by myself after the rest abandoned me upon smelling it. smell my breath and dieeee! there was also a steak stall which had the meat lovers raving abt too. sadly, tris cldn't join us that night cos he suddenly developed a fever. must have been too much singing at the ktv and professing that "billy jean is not my girl". on that subject, ktv there is big business! whole buildings are dedicated to it, and the individual rooms have their own toilets. the singing system rates ur skills and tells u what songs are lucky for ur birth date. i suppose its a extreme show of national pride since most of the singers on the market are local produce. we have singaporeans singing along to a somewhat more famous singaporean every aug 9, they have taiwanese singing along to their own uncle's brothers' cousins' son's sister everyday =)

i definitely wish the holiday wld never end; the excitement of exploring a new place with friends, the laughter and jibing, and the nights of camaraderie in the hotel as we pass jack daniels and jacks around as we watch tv are still etched in my mind. a week ago, we were gathered in our hotel room discussing our game plan for the next few days! time marches on, a constant source of woe for me. but i had much fun and i thank god and my friends for giving me such a fantastic holiday. may there be more chances in future!

the second day of total liberation has proved rather unsettling. i woke up at close to 11 this morning and instinctively felt immense guilt and disgust with myself for wasting valuable study time. it was a few seconds after that i realised that there was no longer anything to study for. what a curious concept. shopping with py in the afternoon, and with the girls yday was like a "spot the difference" game; shops changed their layouts, some shut, some opened. deprived ppl who haven't seen town in ages.

its so horrible that "u want what u don't have" applies to the aftermath of exams too. for weeks now, we've been dreaming of the moment of freedom, but once it was bestowed upon us, it just didn't seem to taste as sweet as imagined. no overwhelming sense of relief, no effusive joy. perhaps we were too drained from the papers. half of my law school career has gone by and i hate it how time just slips away from me. i might do an elaborate thank you speech some other time, but for now i sleep. taiwan on monday! instead of longing to be amidst the excitement of the departure lounge, i shall BE there.

i'm altruistic? will i set up a charitable purpose trust for the world at large? har har. but every good student of equity knows that that is void for conceptual uncertainty and administrative unworkability. just as every good student (good in my case meaning guai, not brilliant) of equity would feel so very rotten when faced with a fairly managable paper but can only let the chance to do well slip away with time. too many issues, too little time; and to think i thought that 1hr 15 min for a question was a generous allowance. blahness. but well... time will catch back up with us and show us where the bell curve bends. till then friends, move on and work towards a better friday!

i'm rather glad that one examinable subject is done with; negotiations were settled on wednesday. my group's probably one of, if not THE 1st ppl to have negotiations already. it didn't go too well cos 1) both sides didn't reach a compromise, 2) the tutors were highly distracted as they giggled, blackberried and whispered to each other (and they're not ladies!), 3) the tutors didn't give us favourable comments, 4) i was a feeble negotiator. anyway, i'm just glad that the weekly wednesday morning craziness is over and we dun have continue the shams and facades to get better grades.
